Poor Socks Amelia, aka Socksie, stuck her nose where it didn't belong last night. We debated whether to call the vet at 10:00 at night or try and remove the quills ourselves. We opted for the latter and if it didn't work then would call the vet. It took 3 of us over a half hour to get over 30 quills out of her nose. Thankfully she didn't get any inside her mouth. She is such a laid back baby girl, but didn't understand that we were helping her. Finally putting a towel over her head helped some. But it was a tough struggle to hold her down! HOWEVER, she's fine and promptly went to bed, our bed, afterwards with a big sigh! Today, she's following me everywhere and won't leave my side.

St. Patricks day means corned beef and cabbage in our house! So today that's what I made! Now all our bellies are full and the fingers are swelling! So worth it, I've got plenty of water to drink!

Wild and Windy Weekend

WOW what a wild and windy weekend we had! From Thursday, mostly on Friday, to Saturday we had heavy rains and high winds. Rainfall is said to be between 4-6" and the wind gust were 60mph. Which means power outages. We lost our Friday from midnight to Saturday afternoon around 5. CMP did a great job trying to keep up with it and getting power back up quick. Time Warner (which is our phone, cable & internet) was off and on until finally staying on for good late yesterday. When Robyn decided it was time to call them, they said they had not had reports of any cable problems. Guess we just assumed they knew there was problems with it.

So back to Friday, what happens when a big storm hits and trees are down and power outages, Robbie goes out with his chainsaw and goes with the fire dept, and making sure roads are clear for EMS to get through. I don't think we've ever had a storm that he's been here. I wouldn't know what to do if he decided to stay home. I'm use to being here by myself with the girls and without the power, keeping the stove going and trying to find enough flashlights. Last year we finally got a small hand cranked one so that Tiz can leave it on while she's trying to sleep. Less batteries we have to worry about! However that doesn't solve my problem of having to fall asleep with a fan on, without power = very little sleep!

Saturday the girls and I kept entertained by playing electronic Monopoly. I have to confess I only played one LONG game, the girls played several. Tiz and I also spent time reading. We really didn't miss the tv and computer all that much after all!

Sunday we uncovered some snow buried wood to put in the basement to dry since we are beginning to run low. As you can see in the photo, Socks obviously found that something had been living there!

Houston we have a problem

We woke up to this not so pleasant surprise on Sunday morning. A crack in my tailgate, a nice big long crack! We haven't backed into anything, so how could a car just crack? Robbie says from the cold we had and then putting it in the heated garage, I'm not believing that because it wasn't really ALL that cold. I've had it since new in 2003 and we've had extreme cold weather for longer periods of time and kept the car in the garage all the time then. I'm thinking somehow it has to do with when the school bus backed into me. But Robbie says that's really far fetched. My poor baby, she'll have to go get some repair work again. Just when you think you're going to be ahead, something always comes up!!

We're getting hit with MORE snow!! Sunday into Monday we were suppose to get 2-4" however I think we got about 10"!!! Now we are in a winter storm warning and suppose to get another 7-9". Girls are hoping that there is a snow day tomorrow!

First monthly family get together

Tonight we had our first monthly family get-together. We did a Mexican theme for dinner. All the food was delicious! Different variety, we stepped away from the tacos, and tried new recipes. Robyn made some wonderful sugar/cinnamon tortillas that she put in coffee ice cream, HEAVENLY!! Top, Cheryl's Mexican chix lasagna, my chicken enchiladas, my corn/black bean dip, Ashton spanish rice. OH! Virgin margaritas.

Last night we finally got to have Christms with my mum. She went away for the holidays, so it was great to have her up for dinner and open presents! We were minus Robbie as he's in Florida working for a few days. Working on a boat and meetings for the new built that he has to build and launch before October! Tiz giving Grammy a hug. Due to the snowstorm we had on Saturday, we were unable to make it up to visit Robbie's grandmother, Nana Connie,for the Ham family Christmas. However Robbie's parents went and brought back gifts for us to open. We opened them up on Sunday, and as usual weren't disappointed!! Robyn opening her gift card

So right now, the plan is that Robbie will hopefully get out of work early Thursday so we can run up to visit. Because this weekend is my weekend to work, plus he's once again leaving for Florida!

Its been snowing here off and on since Thursday. The result, probably at least 12" of snow. I'm betting a little more. Right now its switching from rain, to snow. HUGE snowflakes now!Temperature must be right on the boarderline of freezing.

We've done lots the past 2 days. Lots of shoveling to say the least! We've been snowshoeing, sledding and the girls even built a snowman this morning! Its been a blast! Back to the real world tomorrow with school and work.

The greatest words I heard today was "Mumma, I'm so glad to be able to eat your good food again". That was from our 9yr old Tiz as she was eating homemade beef stew. Our poor little munchin was very sick from last Thursday until really feeling like herself today. She spent time in 3 Emergency Rooms before being admitted to the hospital on Saturday morning and being released on Monday afternoon.

Last Thursday, the day we got the new kitty, Tiz said that her tummy was upset and not feeling well. Went to bed fairly early and woke up around 10 with a high fever and complaining that her belly was really bad. So in bed she crawled with me. We didn't sleep at all, she tossed and turned and was so uncomfortable. Around 4ish she threw up some, said she felt better and fell asleep. ( just in time for me to go to work!). Robbie was to go to RI for the day, but he stayed home so I could work. Instinct told me to have him to make a dr's app't. So off they went around 10 to the pediatrician. They tested her for UTI, which was negative and said that if the pain moved any - then to call them back. She was a lounge lizard all day and didn't eat. That night she wanted to go to bed early, so crawled in bed with me, then went into her own bed. At 2am she woke up saying the pain was unbearable and could barely move. So called the pediatrician, who advised us to go to the hospital. Off we went to our local ER. She vomited a few times there and spiked a fever of over 102. The poor dear has my mums veins, which roll and make it almost impossible for them to stick her for an IV. They poked and poked and poked some more. No IV, but did get some blood. The blood work showed her white cells were high, not alarming high at this point, but high. So the dr on duty wanted a ultrasound done of her appendix. BUT we had to go to another town to get that done. Off we loaded the poor babe and drove 20miles to the other hospital. There they tried an IV, no luck, and started her drinking CT contrast in the event the ultrasound didn't show anything. Off we went to the ultrasound, the tech and the ER dr were 100% positive that it was an appendix and decided against doing the cat scan, but asked if we wanted surgery done there. I told them I wanted to go to the hospital near where her pediatrician was or onto Maine Medical where the childrens hospital is. So they made arrangements and off we went to Midcoast. There we checked into the ER then was ushered to the Med/Surg floor and into her room. There her nurse was absolutely FABULOUS! She did a great job numbing her arm, and telling her she had a "magic potion" and she couldn't look. The "magic potion" was a little shot of lidocaine to numbed her arm so that they could get an IV in. Blood work was done and her white cells had jumped to 20,000. The surgeon was not convinced though it was appendicitis, nor did her pediatrician. So we hunkered down in the room for the night, waiting to see what the blood cells would do. The next morning blood work done and they had dropped down by about 1/2. Won't go into the details of what we had to go thru get get the blood. They decided to keep her overnight again, if she still had flank pain Monday morning, then they would do a cat scan. Monday the flank pain was gone and the white blood cells were normal at 5200. They started her on a clear diet, then a soft diet and then she was allowed home!!! Monday night we all were exhausted and fell asleep at 7pm and didn't get up until 6am. She lounged around yesterday, eating a little more but not much. Slept well again last night. Today she's back to normal. Eating and running around. So its now 7pm and she's exhausted and ready for bed - so off we go and she's begging for school tomorrow!! OH, the surgeon thinks she had some viral gastreonitis bug. However if anything flares up again, then she will automatically have a ct scan. But we are hoping that never happens!!!

Introducing Mittens! Little brother to Socks and Boots. He's a 6month old Blue Point Siamese, like Boots, plus a mixture of something because he is double pawed. We heard there was another one there so we went to just check him out, which is a mistake because we fell in love with him. He's so loving and wants to be snuggled. PLUS he doesn't MEOW - not a peep out of him. But he does purrr lots! There were a few more kitties there that I would of loved to bring home with me, I feel so bad for all of them!

A little over a week ago the girls had physicals, as well as influenza shots. Poor Tiz didn't do well on her eye test, in fact - she basically flunked it. I called my eye doctor and managed to get her in on Wednesday for an appointment. Sure enough, she has her daddy's eyes! She's far sighted and has an astigmatism. So glasses were in order. Today, we got the glasses that she picked out and she's absolutely ADORABLE, I didn't think she could get any cuter - but she did!

YAY!! Our new woodstove came this week and its all set up, well sort of. The dealer forgot to order the ash pan, and the fan doesn't work. BUT other than that - its working fine and keeping us warm. Its been a cool couple of days. This one holds LOTS of wood, and is simple to use. I'm excited that when Robbie is gone for 2 1/2 weeks, at least I'll be warm.

Boots has been cold the past few days and likes to snuggle on the couch, in the sun, under a blanket! Foolish cat!

Girls weekend

This weekend the girls and I had a "girls weekend". We were suppose to go camping one last time, but basically at the last minute Robbie was told he had to go to Annapolis on Friday morning and then Tuesday will be flying to FL for a seminar he's presenting at. So, with me having the weekend off, we decide we'd go and get some warmer clothing for the girls. We had a great time, went to TJ Maxx, Fashion Bug, Old Navy, Famous Footwear and Walmart. Tiz got a pair of "Nine West" shoes that are adorable and priced just right! We got home in time for Robyn to go babysit until 10. Thanks so much Ashy for picking her up! Saved me from keeping Tiz up late!
Saturday Robyn had a make-up Field Hockey game so we chilled at home until it was time to take her to the school to catch the bus.

Sunday we decided that we wanted to get pumpkins and apples. So Robyn researched and we finally decided to go to Beth's Farm stand. Off we went and when we got there, it was absolute packed! We ended up getting fresh spinach, tomatoes, cukes, apples, popping corn on the cob and YES pumpkins!

On the way home we drove threw Damariscotta and got stuck in the middle of traffic for the great pumpkinfest! We were lucky enough that the traffic was slow that we were able to get some great shots of the wonderful pumpkins!

Today was Columbus Day and I had to work. So the girls got to sleep in and enjoy a relaxing day and finish up homework. When I got home I was pleasantly surprised to have dinner waiting for me that Robyn made (with assistance from Tiz of course)! Freshly made chicken noodle soup made in the crock pot and dessert of warm brownie w/ice cream!!!

So I think the girls and I had a fabulous weekend, I know I did. We spent great quality time together and lots of laughs. Now I'm sitting here on the couch, chilled w/my nose cold and thinking of how jealous I am that Robbie will be in FL tomorrow in 90 degree weather!! I'm not however jealous of him having to speak in front of god knows how many people, that is something I don't envy and could never do! But I'm missing him and can't wait for him to be home on Thursday!

Late this summer, one of my co-workers mentioned that she was selling her Boston Whaler. She said it had been in storage for a few years and that it had never been in salt water! Robbie has been wanting a boat since we had to sell his 17yrs ago to build the house. So I jumped at the opportunity and told him about it. The price was right and the boat is a gem! It small so I can haul it behind my vehicle and take it with us camping. Plus easy enough to launch when we want. The intent is it gives Robbie and the girls something to do the weekends I work.

So we were able to go for our first official boat ride on Sunday the 13th and actually had a great day for it. Had a little picnic on the boat, went over to Bristol for a while and around Sheepscott River. Hauled it up and came home for a while, decided it was too nice a day and Robbie has been working 6am-10pm almost every night for 2 weeks and deserved to go back out. So we launched it in the Harbor and went around there, and thru the bridge and Southport. Hopefully the weather will haul and we'll be able to use in when we go camping Columbus Day weekend!! Unfortunately Robbie is in Rhode Island for at least the next 2 weeks and coming home late on Saturday and leaving Tuesdays - so doesn't look like it'll be used until then.

Sorry guys, but I have lots to blog about we've been busy the past week!! I'll start with the first day of school. Tiz started on Wednesday Sept 2 and entered the 4th grade! Robyn, being an upper classman now, started her Sophmore year a day later on Thursday!!!On Friday, Sept 4, Robbie celebrated his 40th Birthday. We couldn't just let it slide by, so the girls and I (with the help of friends Mandy and Val) organized a surprise birthday party for him. We even pulled it off! Had a fabulous turn out too, which surprised me for a holiday weekend! GOTCHA!!!

Then on Monday, Labor Day, we celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I can truthfully say that we've been blessed with a wonderful marriage. Yes, we've had our ups and downs, but that is what has made us have a stronger marriage. I married an amazing guy and am truly blessed. He's the most unselfish person I know, he cares more for others needs then his own. So many people are selfish and only care for themselves, not caring who they hurt in the meantime. These people give up and don't want to work at a marriage. It takes a lot of work, patience and love. Just like many things in life. Cripes, I know people who have been married 4 times and probably haven't made it to 18yrs between all 4!!! Robyn had these FABULOUS shirts made up for us, she designed them!

Robyn and Elizabeth also made a fabulous video for us. Robyn really is creative. We've tried to post it, but having technical difficulties. If you're a friend of mine on Facebook, you can see it there. Lots of thought and hard work went into it and its absolutely terrific. Yes, it even made me cry!

Later in the day we went to my Sissy's house for a cook-out to celebrate my nieces 18th birthday. She had a full house of true family (Marks family has accepted her and her brothers into their family as one of their own) and friends who love, respect and support her as she enters "adulthood". The food was great, the gifts were fantastic, I wanted to sneak a few things home with me, and we had a great time.

FINALLY, I wish to bid farewell to our "Texan" family. Louise and Sarah (aka Thelma & Louise) come and visit every other year. They bring their motorhome and park it in my mums "backyard" for 3 months during the summer. These ladies have become family over the years, as well as their family in Texas. Its so true that Texans are the friendliest people around. We love these guys so much, and will miss them terribly. But we always know they are just a phone call and plane ride away. Wishing Louise, Sarah, Joe and Freda a wonderful winter and be careful, because one day we will take you up on your Thanksgiving invitation!!

So, that's it for our crazy first week in September!! I didn't even get to mention the field hockey games!!

A very, very happy 18th birthday to my niece.....Ashton Anne Nickerson!! You've grown to be a beautiful young lady! In case you couldn't tell from the photo, Ashton was born in the wee morning of my wedding day! She made the day extra special to say the least! Since my sis was unable to make it to the wedding, after the reception we headed to Bath Memorial Hospital to meet our new niece!!!

Ashton and I have had a special relationship since then. She's a remarkable, beautiful young lady who never stops amazing me!!! She's got a heart of gold and is going to be a TERRIFIC RN.

Dear Ashy Anne:

WOW!! It is so hard to believe you are off to college tomorrow! Where is the little girl that thought Auntie was "backwards" when she was pregnant, who would spend the night and loved to be read to, especially Good Night Moon. The little girl that loved riding with her little cousin in the "jeep", loved going on camping trips. She grew up to be a beautiful young lady, that has an infectious laugh, loves to talk and has a magnetic personality! Who comes in to raid Auntie's pantry and fridge and then is gone in the blink of an eye. Who is SO good to my girls, taking Robyn to school and shopping. Picking Tiz up after school and taking care of her. THANK YOU!

You had a special place in my heart from the moment you were born, on my wedding day! A day that was more joyous than I could ever imagine! To watch you grow has been amazing. You have changed so much in the past few years. I would never of imagined that you would want to be a nurse. I always figured a teacher was for you, but your compassionate side popped out when you took the CNA class. You are such a caring, loving, sensitive, intelligent, fun loving, whimsical person that you are going to make a fantastic RN!

I've spent many nights talking with you, crying with you and laughing with you - you are like another child to me. You know that I'm here for you 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year! I'm ALWAYS just a phone call away. You CAN do this, you are going to have a tough few weeks, but you will adjust just fine. We are all here for you when you need to hear words of encouragement, to vent frustrations, fears and worries. As well as joys. I especially can't wait to hear your stories, because I know you are going to have some good ones to tell. The girls can't wait to visit, and when you are settled (okay, okay when I can handle that you are on your own) I can't wait to come and have you show me around.

Ashton, I love you like one of my own and I want you to know how proud of you I am. Keep your chin up high, keep that beautiful smile on your face and the sparkle in your eyes. Today we went and spent 6hrs at the Botantical Gardens!!! I've never been before, nor had Robyn, so Auntie and Tiz had the opportunity to show us around! It is an absolutely GORGEOUS place. Believe it or not we still didn't see everything there was to see! We had lots of fun, good talking and many many moments of belly aching laughs. I'm sure others there thought the heat got to us!

Today we had the pleasure to go "yachting" on Available! What a gorgeous day for it!! We were able to be out for 3 1/2hrs.

So here is my list of why its a good thing we've had a rainy and cool summer (2" from being the rainiest on record, which I'm sure we'll beat before the middle of August)

1) Save on electricity, all 3 air conditioners are still in the basement on the shelf

2) Lawn looks GREAT! Usually its burned and dead by now

3) Save my skin, I haven't had a sunburn

4) Save on money, only had to buy 1 thing of sun lotion

5) Save on gas, hardly had to use the air conditioner in the car and open the windows slightly

6) Haven't bought as much ice cream this year....save on weight!!

7) Lots and lots and lots of inside quality time with the girls (did I mention lots?)

8) Its made the kids use their imagination to come up with things to do

9) Haven't seen the dreaded boa constrictor (okay so its a garden snake) this summer on the front step

10) Lots of "lazy" PJ days!!

Of course there are bad things.....

1) Small tourist town, need the sun to boost local businesses

2) Everything in the house is damp and icky feeling

3) Wet dog smell

4) Wanted to walk all the Land Trust walking trails this summer - haven't

5) Seems like the sun comes out the days I have to work

6) Yup, still wet dog smell

7) The weather gets you down

8) My garden hasn't grown at all, think the rabbits, chipmunks and everything else ate it. Plus a lot of it had mold

9) Weather makes people cranky

10) Orange slugs...........eewww!

From where I work, across the water, this "ahem" little yacht appeared and docked! Look how little the boat is that is driving by it!!! I did some research and found that the owner of the boat is the 4th richest guy in the world! He charters the boat out (one can only dream) and I wonder .....who's on it??

Not only a helicopter, but two 17' platoon boats aboard! Look familiar to anyone??? Whoever it is, actually waved to us! Course was probably wondering who the crazy lady in the pink scrubs standing on a heli pad snapping pictures, with 2 kids and 3 other people!

The female on board, she didn't seem like she was crew member, but who knows!

Robbie READING!! Well, its Uncle Henrys but still! Boots is glad that we are home!!! So much so, he's done nothing but meow constantly for the past few days!

Today we went out on "Available" to watch the launching of the tug "Lois Ann L Morin" at Washburn & Doughty. 1 year ago was the tragic fire that burned the place down completely. They've rebuilt a huge building and this was their first launching. The tug that was launched was in the building during the fire.

We actually had the opportunity to go under sail on the boat! Weather was rainy, damp and cool - but the boat was so smooth and gorgeous. Believe it or not, I would like to go out on it on a sunny day!! That's a lot coming from me, because I'm not a boater!

Tiz had the pleasure and honor of announcing the launching, when the boat hit the water, by blowing the air horn!

Sorry, but I couldn't resist snapping this!!! PRICELESS!

So despite all the rain we've been having, we had a great camping trip! We went to the drive-in and saw Ice Age 3, went for nice long drives and fell in love with the Town of Caratunk! Its absolutely GORGEOUS in the mountains and a lake. Camped with good friends and already made reservations with them to go for 4days in August!

Now back to reality and back to work this weekend. Robyn has her last hour of driving on Saturday, and Robbie has the pleasure to ride with her (requirement is a parent must ride for an hour and shucks, I have to work - darn) and then hopefully within the next week or so she will have her drivers permit. Tiz is keeping herself busy playing with her American Girl doll and Barbies. We are just hoping that the sun comes out soon and stays for a while!!!

Today since it was overcast, cool and sprinkling we went SHOPPING!!! Robyn found a new store and fell in love with it. Labelshopper. Named brand things at a fraction of the cost. She was thrilled to buy herself new clothes, and only spend $40 because her items had a red dot, which meant an additional 40% off!! Me? Well I was thrilled with my $1 broom from the dollar store since I forgot mine at home!

Here is a picture of about 1/4 of all the balloons that were blown up for the 4th of July Celebration. Robyn and Tiz had a great time, it was a busy day there and the kids LOVED the games and prizes that Robyn picked out. The other day my cousin, Wayoutwest, posted this wonderful recipe that she found on The Pioneer Women . It looked heavenly and I couldn't resist!! So last night I made baked Ziti and the delicious pie and took it down to the ambulance station to eat with the rest of my duty crew. Needless to say, it was FABULOUS and a hit. Easy to make and highly recommend it!
Blogger isn't cooperating very well right now, I've got other pictures but it won't let me post for some reason, so I leave you on another rainy day, a day where I've been debating whether to turn the furnace on (yes on 7-8-09) with a thought of what this rain could be!!

Contrary to popular believe, this is MY blog. This is where I post what I want. Its called Freedom of Speech. I use this blog to share my thoughts, experiences, joys of my family and whatever else I so choose. I type the truth, so if the truth hurts - I'm not sorry. SO if you are offended by my blog then the obvious solution is not to read it. That is common sense (aka a no brainer). However some people have no common sense.

Robyn made a wonderful dinner of pork chops in mushroom sauce, potatoes and spinach

The dinner ended by a cake that they made while we were out, and actually cleaned up so I had NO idea what they had been up too! We didn't have any frosting so once again Elizabeth looked on the computer and found a recipe using confectioners sugar, lemon extract and of course - pink food coloring.

And here is my necklace that Robbie completely surprised me with!!! The open hearts by Jane Seymour. I've wanted this for a while. The girls had no idea he bought it either! So its funny to see that on the poster they made for me, that Tiz had drawn the symbol for the open heart!!

HOOORAAYY....today while I was at work Robbie hauled out the camper and opened it up! And guess what? NO RODENTS!!! Once again, the huge box of Bounce sheets that I bought at Sam's Club and placed in every little nook and cranny worked!! He power washed it and washed some of the blankets inside. I'm so excited to think that the camping season is about to begin! I'm hoping that maybe, just maybe we can find a place and go next weekend. At least for a night. Saturday night is Prom, but something came up with her cousin and Robyn is unable to go after all. So maybe a camping trip will cheer her up. I know a campfire and s'mores will do the trick!! Not to mention the celebration of winter being over!!!!

First, let me begin by giving a very, very special THANK YOU to my nephew Ben. He made a certain little 8yr old thrilled beyond words!! Also a HUGE birthday hug to Ben today too!! Hope you have a great day!!

We went to the Portland Pirates game on Friday night. The night that would determine if they would be in the play-offs or not. We all had a fabulous time. The game was excellent, kept you on the edge of your seat. At one point the Pirates were behind, Robbie and Tiz went to look at Pirate jerseys for sale, he ended up getting her one (gulp, again thank you Ben). From that point on the game got even more exciting and the Pirates won! Tiz insists that it was because she got a shirt and it brought good luck!!! I got a video of the end of the game and Tiz's reaction to the winning, but unsure if I could post it or not. Below are pictures of the game though:

Today I went to Hodgdon's to have lunch with Robbie. We got sandwiches at one of our favorite places, East Boothbay General Store. They have the best sandwiches!! When I was about to leave, Hodgdon's Parking lot, I noticed by the door..................crocuses!!!! Purple and white crocus!! That means Spring is really here, right???

I'm going to take a moment to brag, because I'm VERY proud to say that Robyn made the 2nd trimester HONOR ROLL!!! WOOHOO!! HAPPY DANCE, HAPPY DANCE. Robyn has always been an okay student, but not one to really apply herself, and managed to squeak by. Well last semester she just missed it, but this semester she really applied herself!! YIPEEE......course, her motivation was that if she got honor roll this semester and the last semester, that we would pay half her drivers ed in June (gulp, yup you read that right) and if she made High Honors - we'd pay for the whole thing. So she got her "blue card" and can now miss 1/2 day of school, plus she gets other benefits too, think she gets a discount at a few stores in town and movie theatre. CONGRATULATIONS ROBYN, WE KNEW YOU COULD DO IT ALL ALONG!!!

Tiz's Ear Piercing

Yesterday was a day Tiz will probably never forget. She went to the Boat Show in Portland with her dad, met up with Auntie, Uncle Mark and Sissy for an early dinner at Bugaboo Creek, and then....the big event....EAR PIERCING!!! Auntie took her, along with the rest of the troops, to the mall to get them done. Here's a video that Robyn took of the event. Which I'm thankful for because I had to work. :( Afterwards, the poor dear almost passed out. From what I understand, she leaned up against her dad and started to pass out, he picked her up and she was like a rag doll. My poor baby girl!!! :(

After surviving the piercing, which looks wonderful by the way, the headed over to the Civic Center for their first Portland Pirates game. Which they absolutely LOVED. So much so, they've conned my nephew (who works for the Pirates) into getting tickets for this coming weekend so that I can go to it!!! Can't wait!!

So, that's the exciting weekend the gang had. So much so, that when I called from work this morning at 10:30, both girly girls were still sleeping! I made Robbie go wake Tiz, its unheard of for her to sleep past 7:30-8:00!!! I was afraid that if he didn't, she'd be awake still at midnight tonight!!!

What a gorgeous weekend we had! The weather was gorgeous and we all had the weekend off!! So on Saturday we decided we'd take the girls to the Mall to use their gift certificates they got for Christmas. We went into the Mall and one of the first stores we went into was the Gap. Elizabeth fell in LOVE with a trench coat. Tried it on and decided that was what she wanted. However, we decided to walk around and check out other stores before buying it. So off we went to wander some more. Robyn found a pair of Coach shoes that she's fallen in love with. Decided it was a tad too much and will wait until she has more money. She's actually hoping to get them when they go to the Mall next weekend with her dad (and Aunt) prior to the Pirates game. So off we went to look some more before Elizabeth decided the jacket was exactly what she wanted. We went back and she proudly purchased it.

After we went to Bugaboo Creek for lunch.

After filling our bellies, we decided we'd leave Portland and head to Augusta to the Civic Center to go to the annual camper show. What a disappointment, waste of time, gas and energy!! We paid $7pp to get in, they let the girls in free - thank goodness. We spent maybe 20min there. There were a handful of vendors as well as campers. There was hardly anyone there when we got there around 5:30. We completely understood why on the door there was a sign stating NO REFUNDS NO MATTER WHAT!!! Such a shame, we use to love going and checking out the different campers and campgrounds.

The girls and Robbie went fishing this weekend while I worked. The weather was gorgeous for them. The ice was still over 6" plus thick, but it was slushy on top so they got soaked! Boots are still drying out! They are hoping its not the last time they can be on the ice - but more than likely it is. Anyways - they had fun and finally, after 2 months of fishing in bitter cold for hours at a time - they caught some! Here's a picture of the big catch.

So now that ice fishing is drawing near the end, its time to dig out the fishing poles for regular fishing. Now, this is something I enjoy doing. Nothing better than sitting on a lake or on a dock, in warm sunny weather, casting!

Recent days with the Hams

We had an absolutely GORGEOUS day today. It was sunny and somewhat warm, mid 30's, today. We enjoyed some outside time. Breaking up the ice in the driveway and walkway, shoveling off the camper roof, bringing up wood and just enjoying the fresh air. Opened the windows in the house 2 days in a row to air it out. Or as my mum says "blow the stink out". Now we are hunkered down and getting ready for another snowstorm that is suppose to hit us tomorrow night into Monday. 6 or more inches of snow. We'll see!!

Well, I had an interesting patient today in the ER. My husband! Robbie fell on the boat at work and broke a rib or two. He's a tad uncomfortable right now, he has a lanacaine patch on and that's helping. Was given a pain prescription, but said he didn't need it so didn't get it filled. Um....now the pharmacy is closed and he's thinking twice about that.

Below are pictures of the hearts that are hanging when you enter the Boothbay Common. The pictures don't do it justice. It's bright and cheery to see on a dreary February day. My 2nd mom, Pat, was the one that gave the idea and initiated it. I call her my 2nd mom because she's my long time friend Melissa's mom and who else can ground you as a teenager!!!

Anyways, back to the hearts - they are beautiful!!! Oh, and Robyn helped hang them this year.

This next picture is the pattern of frost that was on my window this morning. Again the picture doesn't do it justice. It really was pretty, even though it was -6 out!!

And finally this picture is one of the many reasons why I love Maine! The sea smoke was gorgeous this morning. This picture is looking out of the water by the hospital. Actually the float in the back is the hospital's float. Where the little building is by the trees is the helopad.

So that's the excitement going on here. Robbie is in the recliner snoring away, so he's obviously comfy there. Maybe he'll end up sleeping there. He did make it through the first 8 laps of the Nascar race. Must be a record!! LOL!!

Ahem, we ran out of dry wood. Dunno how that happened, but we did. We have several cords of green wood that will be perfect for next year. Anyways, Robbie called and found a place that had some kiln dried wood for sale. Prices are amazing, the place we got it was $100 less than another place. Robyn says that the wood is pretty however its not completely dry but better than all green. Its so nice to have a woodfire again. 2 days without the woodstove was pretty chilly. We are use to the mid to high 70's in the house, and it was 64 to 66 with the oil ....... bbrrrrr. I feel bad for those who completely heat with oil!

One year ago, on 1/3/08, my job position in the insurance agency I worked was eliminated and the office closed. After being in the insurance business (since 1/86) I was jobless. Course the financial issue came up, but with my severance pay and such - I was able to make an extra mortgage payment to stay ahead. However, I wasn't jobless for long. I helped clean out the house of a dear friends parents, that they lived in for 30yrs, after they sold it. Then I worked per Diem as a lunch lady, worked (work) for a former employers daughter in their insurance agency that she and her husband own (when they want a vacation I fill in since its just them) worked many, many, many hours on the ambulance service and finally got a job at the local hospital. I had lots of plans for things I was going to accomplish with the house, some got done but a majority didn't as I didn't have as much time off as I figured I would!!! After working while the kids were little, I was able to spend time with them. Sure made school vacations and summer vacation easier! But as I sit here its amazing how fast the past year went. How things seem to fall into place and work out. Yeah, as usual money is tight - but when isn't it? But we are happy, healthy and doing just fine!

Now....to find the time to paint the rooms I want, hoe out closests and bedrooms!!

I can't go (lots of tears shed over this one from more than just me!!) because its my weekend to work. They both have their digital cameras and told me they'd take lots of pictures. I know they'll have a blast with their grandparents, aunts, uncle and cousin! No worries there!! They plan on coming home Saturday night! I can't wait to hear the stories and see the pictures!

Just rec'd a text message from Robyn that we have power!!! YIPEEE!!!

Now, its really pathedic to think that we only went 1 day without power and barely survived - we really need to do something about that. We really don't watch a lot of TV or have any video games, so why was it such a problem? Must of been not having a bathroom!!! LOL

I still don't feel good and don't (can't) fully trust the stomach. We've been without power for a day you can only play so many games, charades and crafts in the limited daylight. And its only been a day!!!! (course I'm only 1 out of 190,000 w/out power) I'm at work so Robbie has them the next 2 days, which they say we may not have power until Monday or Tuesday. Which means my freezer has gone to waste. I vacuum daily and already having withdrawals on that. Not to mention the laundry piling up. Again, its only been 1 day w/out the power so far! I can't sleep at night because I have to have a fan running to sooth me to sleep, Robbie's extra loud snoring didn't help any! Its cold. I can't get in the Christmas spirit to decorate, didn't get my shopping done because I was sick. Can't this weekend because I work all weekend. Explorer needs new ball joints or something a rather, which means over $500 worth of parts, the plus on that is Robbie can do it himself.

There, I feel a tad bit better whining and feeling sorry for myself!!!! Time to move forward!!!

Elizabeth picked out a dress for the ambulance christmas party and for her "winter" choral concert (not allowed to say Christmas in school). It has gold in it and insisted she needed gold shoes. However when we went shopping, we couldn't find any. Thank goodness for internet, payless and UPS! I found some and they arrived, as a surprise, for her yesterday. She was thrilled!! However, the party was rescheduled from tonight until Sunday night do to the ice storm we are suppose to get. So you'll see pictures of the outfit all put together, including gold purse, then. Here's a slight preview - shoes only!

This week I had the stomach flu, I pray I'm the only one in the house that will get it. If not, hopefully they'll get it this weekend........cause I work all weekend! Oh, that was mean of me!! But the flu is going around the ER, and now the rest of the hospital. Watch out Auntie and Uncle Mark!!!

I absolutely LOVE Christmas music and my radio station in the car is set to the station that plays it 24/7 until Christmas.

So I had to change my playlist to Christmas songs, Jim Brickman is one of my many favorite artists. I had to throw in Amazing Grace on the bagpipes - just because its beautiful!

Here are a few of my thankful things:

My wonderful husband, for providing me a wonderful life and 2 beautiful girls
My 2 girls, for showing me what love really is - for the many laughs and even tears
My mom - for being strong in so many ways
My "seasoned" Sissy - for being there for me and my girls and being a great Auntie
My health
Having a house that will be warm this winter and not having to worry about feeding my family
My great new job that I absolutely LOVE
My friends, who are there to make me laugh, listen to my complaints and always have a hug when needed

Those are a few, I could go on ...... but time to put the turkey in. What are your thankful things??

Dang!! The cold air has hit us with a vengeance!! We've had temperatures in the teens at night and this morning, heavy frost on the truck windshield!! The wood stove has been working hard keeping us toasty warm. Thank goodness!! I did finally have to break down and turn the heat on because I worked yesterday and couldn't keep the stove going. So when the girls got home it was 64 in here. Had to tell them to turn it up. A shock to the system since its usually 78 in here with the wood stove!! So that was the first time the heats been on - very nice, since its usually in October. The benefits of not working full time!!!!!!!

Weekend get-away............sorta

This weekend was our annual get-away. Its the Midcoast EMS seminar in Rockport that we attend, we take classes to get cec's required to keep our EMT licenses in force. We had a great time, as usual, the weather wasn't cooperative. This morning the fog cleared and rain stopped so we could finally see what the view was out of our room!! I bet its absolutely GORGEOUS in the summer!

Our friend Mandy and boyfriend Matt were WAY at the other end of the motel from us.....they must of been warned ahead of time about Mandy and I and knew it would be best to separate us!! LOL

So now, I'm cleaning out our suitcase, as well as the girls, and repacking a smaller suitcase for Robbie because he's headed this afternoon to RI to do repair work on the boat they built that is there. He'll probably be there until Thursday. He wasn't suppose to go until Tuesday. But people aren't doing what they are suppose too - so being management - off he goes! PLUS he's got an awful head cold and feels miserable. :-( Hopefully he'll get there fairly early tonight so he can get a good night sleep. The hotel where we stayed, the beds were like sleeping on the floor. Actually the floor might of been softer!!!

Hey it Robyn reporting here from Boothbay telling you about my awesome trip. I went to Minnesota (if you didn't hear) for a conference called Healthy Kids/Healthy Community Convention. A group of us called the Core of Leaders raised money this past year and got lots of grants and a large donation from the old YMCA director of $620. (Didn't feel bad he has a Porche). Let me explain the Core of Leaders to you. It is a group that helps build the 40 developmental assets in our community. Let me just say if you have never heard of them then you must read this, http://www2.search-institute.org/assets/. So we hold a Youth Summit every year for all BRES and BRHS students to attend at our local YMCA that is "within a stone throw of the schools'' that basically reminds all youth of the 40 assets, that our schools try very hard to help build. We do fun fundraiser that no one would ever think of. Such as a Flamingo Flock, which is were you can pay a small fee to get a group of flamingos put on a friends lawn anonymously. We have raised $6,000 dollars off that at least. We have done a Guitar Hero tournament, Car Wash's, bake sales, and basically anything you could think of.

The conference was at the Hyatt hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The outside of the hotel. It looks small but it was everything that you can see the tall building, the little thing that says Hyatt, and everything else around it. It was 25 floors.

This was the speaker room were we had an opening ceremony everyday ceremony everyday with a variety of different speakers and performers.

My favorite class was a class that was called Tel-a-vision. (See if you can get what it means............................................................Tell A Vision, get it??? Well back on track. It is a website that allows you to make a video of your dream for America and anything else that you want to make a video on. Ok. My most favorite part. So excited..... Drum roll please..........

THE MALL OF AMERICA.http://mallofamerica.com/. I had the best time there. I would sooooo go back if I had a chance. We went one day and didn't even get through half of it. And we didn't think that we would get to go back..... but one of the adults wanted to go back and offered to take me... so do you think I would say no? Well I didn't. I got to go to the mall 2 times. We got through most of it. It was so saweeeet. You just had to be there to see how amazing it was. There was 3 roller coasters in it. A log flume, a Dora the Explorer Ferris Wheel, and plenty more. We could have spent at least a day in just that part. I went into the QVC Store and they were airing one of the shows there. I have a picture of the on air sign that was LIGHT UP. It was amazing. There was an American Girl Store that was 3 floors, a zillion other stores that I have never heard of. Here are some pictures. And by the way it was AMAZING.

She's on her way home, took off at 3:50pm Minneapolis time. She'll land in GA at 7:25 and leave at 8:05. She'll land in Portland at 10:41 and should arrive at the school around midnight! I'll make sure she posts about her trip. But she's had a blast, even went back to the mall last night and even to QVC again!! That's my girl!!
